Steak grilling inside a Maytag® oven with Grill Mode

Guide to Grilling in Your Oven

Grilling doesn’t just have to be the best part of summer. Select Maytag® ranges and grilling accessories let you enjoy the classic charbroiled flavour of freshly grilled foods even in the winter. This article will help introduce you to grilling in your oven and how to use Grill Mode on select Maytag® ranges.

HOW TO GRILL INDOORS

If using a grilling accessory, adjust your oven’s racks to be closer to the heating element. A broiler pan is another option and doesn’t require you to adjust any oven racks.

Next, increase your oven’s temperature to 260°C (500°F) and follow these instructions to grill in your oven.

SUPPLIES

  • Cast-iron grill pan or broiler pan

  • Meat thermometer (optional)

1. POSITION YOUR OVEN RACKS PROPERLY

Position your oven racks so they are closer to the heating element. If using a broiler pan, leave the racks as is.

2. PUT EMPTY GRILL PAN IN THE OVEN AND PREHEAT

The cooking surface needs to be as hot as the oven to grill in your oven. To do so, place a grilling pan on the newly arranged oven rack and preheat the oven to 260°C (500°F).

If you choose to use a broiler pan, place it on the oven’s top rack or in the broil compartment. Preheating may take between 20 and 30 minutes to reach the ideal temperature.

3. GRILL YOUR FOOD

Carefully place your food on the pan once your grilling accessory has reached the ideal temperature. Then, cook your food as you would on a grill. Don’t forget to keep your food moist and flavourful by brushing it with a marinade.

HOW TO USE GRILL MODE ON SELECT MAYTAG® RANGES

Using Grill Mode on select Maytag® ranges is simple. Insert the included Reversible Cast Iron Grill/Griddle following the directions provided in your product manual, and then create that unmistakable grilled taste during any season and whenever you want.

ARE BROILING AND GRILLING THE SAME?

Broiling and grilling use slightly different heating methods to cook food. Outdoor grilling uses metal grates over open flames or hot coals, whereas broiling uses a preheated pan 5-15 cm (2-6 inches) below the heating element. The important thing is that broiling and grilling produce similar results with delicious caramelization.

ARE INDOOR GRILLS SMOKELESS?

An outdoor grill gets its heat from burning wood or charcoal, whereas Maytag® ranges with Grill Mode use either the oven’s heating element or burner to cook food. While not entirely smokeless, indoor grills create minimal smoke thanks to their heat source.

CAN INDOOR GRILLS CREATE GRILL MARKS ON FOOD?

A Maytag® range with Grill Mode can grill indoors and deliver the same beautiful grill marks often seen on traditionally grilled proteins and vegetables. The Reversible Cast Iron Grill/Griddle features a ribbed side to produce the same grill marks as the grates of an outdoor grill.

HOW TO CLEAN AN INDOOR GRILL

After grilling indoors, you should clean your oven, which can be as simple as a run-of-the-mill meal cleanup. First, wait for your oven to cool down, and then wipe away any grease buildup with a damp cloth.

You can clean the Reversible Cast Iron Grill/Griddle as you would any traditional cast iron cookware. Do not use degreasing agents, like dish soap or steel wool. Rather, use a brush or mild scrubbing sponge to remove any stubborn, stuck-on food and then rinse with water. Always dry the Grill/Griddle to avoid rusting.
