How to Wash Pillows

Most pillows, including down and feather, are machine washable. Some, like memory foam, are not. Always check the care label for specific instructions on how to wash your pillow. While methods may vary, some general rules apply.

STEP 1: LOAD SIZE, WATER TEMPERATURE AND CYCLE SELECTION

Wash two at a time to balance the load
Wash in the warmest water recommended
Select a gentle cycle

STEP 2: DETERGENT AND RINSE OPTION

Use only a small amount of detergent
Select the second rinse option, if available, to make sure all the detergent is rinsed clean.

STEP 3: MAKE SURE YOUR PILLOWS ARE DRY

Always make sure to check your care label for specific drying instructions.

Select a gentle cycle
Most pillows should be dried on a low heat setting.
Dry down and feather pillows on a no-heat, air-dry setting.
Add dryer balls to fluff the pillows.
Check that the pillows are dry before removing them to help prevent mildew growth.

Always check the care label, but memory foam should usually be hand washed to prevent it from breaking apart. It can be rinsed in water but shouldn’t soak for any length of time. Depending on how dirty your pillow is, try one of these methods to freshen it up:

Sprinkle baking soda on each side and let sit for one hour. Vacuum clean.
Spot clean with a solution of water and mild detergent.
Rinse with water and mild detergent. Gently squeeze water out until it runs clear.
